MANAGMENT TEAM
William Worthen President and CEO Mr. Worthen has served as president and CEO of ALSIUS since 1997. Prior to that, he served as president, CEO and director of Neuro Navigational Corporation, a medical device company with a focus in minimally invasive neurosurgery. He was vice president of marketing for Intertherapy, Inc., and held the positions of director of marketing and marketing manager for Trimedyne, Inc. Mr. Worthen also held sales and marketing management positions with Baxter, Edwards Laboratories Division.
Greg Tibbitts Chief Financial Officer Mr. Tibbitts has served as our interim Chief Financial Officer since August 2008. Mr. Tibbitts served as the Chief Financial Officer of CryoCor, Inc., a medical device company focused on cardiology, from July 2004 until its acquisition by Boston Scientific Corporation in May 2008. From April 2000 to June 2004, he held various positions, including Chief Financial Officer, with Elitra Pharmaceuticals Inc., a biotechnology company. From December 1996 to March 2000, he was a senior manager in the audit department of Ernst & Young LLP, specializing in the biotechnology, medical device and other high technology industries. He received a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of San Diego and an M.B.A. in Finance from San Diego State University, and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California.
Suzanne Winter, M.B.A. Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing Ms. Winter has more than 20 years experience introducing new technology and services into highly competitive medical device markets. Prior to ALSIUS, she was the Business Unit Director for Toshiba America Medical Systems' $40M diagnostic ultrasound division. She has held senior marketing and Business development positions at Hewlett Packard's Medical Product Group and field sales and market development positions at General Electric in the Plastics Business Group. She has a B.Sc. degree in chemistry from St. Lawrence University in New York and a M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School.
Mike Ameli, M.B.A. Vice President of Manufacturing Mr. Ameli has more than 20 years of experience in the design, development and manufacturing of medical devices and equipment. Prior to joining ALSIUS, he held senior engineering and operations management positions with several divisions of Medtronic Corporation, Olympus America, Inc., Baxter International, Inc. and American Hospital Supply Corporation. Mr. Ameli has established and managed numerous operations in the United States and overseas. These operations involved the manufacture of cardiovascular, interventional vascular, urological, endo-therapy and other medical devices and equipment. Mr. Ameli has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and a master's degree in business administration from California State University, Long Beach.
John Riolo, B.S. Vice President, Regulatory, Clinical, Quality Assurance Mr. Riolo has twenty-three years of experience in regulatory affairs, quality assurance and engineering. Prior to joining Alsius, Mr. Riolo served as Vice President of Quality Assurance at DexCom, Inc., which develops glucose monitoring technologies for diabetes. From August 2002 to January 2005, Mr. Riolo served as President of MicroMed Laboratories and Consulting Services, a subsidiary of Oculus Innovative Sciences, Inc., where he was responsible for all operational and business development activities relating to regulatory affairs, quality assurance and clinical affairs consulting, as well as microbiological testing services. From January 2001 to August 2002, Mr. Riolo served as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance for the Vascular Division of Medtronic, Inc., a manufacturer of balloon catheters, stents and stent grafts for the treatment of vascular diseases and
aneurisms. Mr. Riolo received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo.
Lynn Shimada VP Research and Development Ms. Shimada has over 20 years of experience in the medical device field. From 1989 to 1998, she held management positions at Cardiovascular Dynamics, a medical device company focused on angioplasty balloon catheters and stents and Advanced International Systems, a medical device company focused on the development of fiber optic catheters for coronary and peripheral laser angioplasty prior to joining ALSIUS. From 1984 to 1989, she developed angioplasty balloon catheters and accessory components for vascular, urological and G.I. systems at Baxter Healthcare Corporation (Edwards LIS Division). Ms. Shimada has held senior positions in product development primarily in class II and III medical devices. She is a graduate of Harvey Mudd College and has a master's degree in applied mechanics bioengineering from University of California, San Diego.
Andrew Wade Vice President of Finance Mr. Wade has served as our Controller since September 2006. Mr. Wade served as the Assistant Controller at Cardiac Science Corporation, a medical device and distribution company from March 2003 to March 2006. He held various positions, including Accounting Supervisor, at Hadley Auto Transport, a company which provides transport services to automobile manufacturers, and Senior Auditor at KPMG LLP, a big four public accounting firm. He received a B.A. in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California.
